Our Specialties: Anaesthetics

Working with our surgical team, the Anaesthetics department provide pain management services to enhance patient care during surgery.

 

Services within the Anaesthetic Division include:

  • Obstetric Anaesthesia (a 24 hour obstetric epidural service is provided with a dedicated obstetric anaesthetist at all times)
  • Orthopaedic and Trauma Anaesthesia
  • Chronic & Acute Pain
  • Maxillofacial Anaesthesia
  • Ophthalmic Anaesthesia
  • Intensive Care Management
  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Day Surgery

 

Local Teaching

There is regular local teaching in Anaesthetics and Intensive care, alongside OSCE and viva practice for the Primary and Final FRCA.

Supervision

More than 90% of our elective lists are supervised. We have experienced educational and clinical supervisors.

 

Exam Support

There are regular OSCE and viva sessions for those approaching their exams. Study leave is nearly always approved for revision courses.

 

Facilities Available

We have a dedicated seminar room for training/teaching and IT access for trainees.

The College Tutor for Anaesthetics / ICU is Dr Alice O’Neill.
